Wonderful images of life on a farm help introduce children to the names of baby animals. Children will love the adorable photographs of a horse and its foal, a sheep and its lamb, a cow and its calf, a chicken and its chick, and many more. Simple text also describes what each animal provides for people, such as wool, eggs, or even fun! An activity asks children to identify five animal sounds, then challenges them to do something funny that a cow can do. "About this title" may belong to another edition of this title.

All rights reserved.: Taken from Chapter 3: Guessing games Charades Charades is a fun game to play when people come to visit. Players take turns being the actor. Each player writes down a word, name, or phrase on a piece of paper and puts it in a hat. The first actor takes a piece of paper from the hat. He or she must act out the mystery word or phrase within one or two minutes. Sometimes the actor gives clues such as pulling on an ear, a gesture that means "sounds like," and then acts out a word that rhymes with the word on the paper. The player who guesses the word or phrase is the next actor. "About this title" may belong to another edition of this title.

"This fascinating book explains that some animals must learn the basics of staying alive from their mothers, while others know how to survive without being taught. Students will discover how some bird and mammal mothers teach their babies how to find food and keep safe from predators. Readers will also learn about other animal skills such as finding their way over great distances. People need help from navigation instruments, radar, or maps. Animals use cues such as the sun, stars, or Earth's magnetic field when they are swimming or flying. This book asks students to look at the skills of animals and compare them to their knowledge and ways of learning."-- "About this title" may belong to another edition of this title.
