Discover the inspiring story of Jesse Owens, African American track-and-field athlete and Olympic gold medalist, in this fascinating kids' biography. Jesse Owens is one of the most famous athletes of all time, but he experienced discrimination throughout his athletic career, such as having to stay at a different hotel to his teammates, because of the color of his skin. However, he went on to win an incredible four gold medals at the Berlin 1936 Olympic Games. This biography, ideal for kids aged 8-11, charts the major events of Jesse's life; from his childhood growing up on a farm in Alabama before his family moved to Ohio in search of better opportunities, to the beginning of his running career and years as a world record-breaking student athlete while working part-time jobs, all the way to the Olympics and beyond. Here’s the remarkable life story of an American hero, told in an exciting graphic novel format. Harriet Tubman lived an incredible life, one more heroic than any comic book superhero. In 1849 she escaped slavery for the first time. Then she headed back into the South, helping about 70 slaves find freedom on more than a dozen dangerous journeys along an elaborate abolitionist network called the Underground Railroad. Harriet Tubman: Fighter for Freedom! is the latest in the Show Me History! collection, previously featuring the stories of real-life American luminaries such as Abraham Lincoln, Alexander Hamilton, and Martin Luther King, Jr. Like the rest of Show Me History!, and befitting her almost unbelievable life, Fighter for Freedom! is presented in full-color, graphic novel format—a long-form comic book.

In the middle of the worst depression in U.S. history, one young racehorse lifted a nation's spirits. Seabiscuit was born in 1933 on a farm in Kentucky. Though bred for racing, he was weak and undersized. He slept too long and ate too much. Against the odds, he began to win local races. He was given a new coach who trained him to race in larger circuits. Soon enough, this scrappy horse began beating the best racehorses in the country. He became a media darling and won national competitions. In 1938 he was voted U.S. Horse of the Year. Seabiscuit's undying spirit and come-from-behind story made him a celebrity and hero for millions.
